I have recently been painting Chester County and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania farmscapes.

To me this is compelling work because these home-farm scenes are quickly disappearing from my area. To me the subject, colors and forms are intriguing and beautiful. Not being huge, industrial agri-businesses, I feel there is still an innocence about them, where man is working very hard, doing what he believes God has intended for him, with the land and animals in his care. I’m not making a political or environmental statement with these paintings, but I certainly feel privileged to see and paint them while they are still in existence.

I’m currently working on a series of small, daily paintings from life that include quail eggs and chicks. They’ll be included on my blog page. My next body of work will be of sheep, more cows and a special rooster, “Henri”.
